Paul McCartney nel volume racconta i testi delle canzoni, descrive le circostanze in cui sono state scritte, fa riferimento alle persone e ai luoghi che lo hanno ispirato.

The Lyrics è qualcosa che va oltre un’autobiografia, è un pezzo di storia della musica pop rock. E’ un diario di bordo che racconta la vita di Paul attraverso le prime composizioni da ragazzo, le canzoni con i Beatles, gli Wings e la sua lunga carriera da solista. Il volume sarà tutte le librerie a partire dal 2 novembre.

Paul nella prefazione scrive: “Molto spesso mi è stato chiesto se avrei scritto un’autobiografia, ma i tempi non sono mai stati maturi.

L’unica cosa che sono riuscito a fare, sia a casa che in viaggio, è scrivere nuove canzoni. Alcune persone, quando raggiungono una certa età, amano leggere un diario per ricordare gli eventi del passato, ma io non ho appunti. Quello che ho sono le mie canzoni, centinaia, che abbracciano tutta la mia vita.

Spero che ciò che ho scritto mostri alle persone qualcosa delle mie canzoni e della mia vita che non hanno mai visto prima.”
